Level 1 April Beginners Pickleball course

For players who are new to the sport or have played very little and have not had any ‘formal’ instruction.

Open to both Calgary Pickleball Club members and non-members. (Please note, as a non-CPC member, send us an email  and we’ll let you know how to sign up, thank you).
 
April 3, 10, 17, 24, 1-3 pm 
 
Lead Instructor TBA (Level 2 IPTPA Instructor) 
 
Players must sign up for all 4 days. Cost $130 – 16 participants
 
 
This course will cover
 
·      Paddle grip
·      Basic ball skills/hand-eye co-ordination
·      The ready position
·      Footwork and split step
·      Basic dink straight and cross court – forehand and backhand
·      Serving and returning
·      Ground strokes
·      The rules
·      Safety and etiquette
·      Basic playing strategy in doubles
·      Each session will include playing games
 
Participants should attend all 4 lessons – no refunds after course has started

Level 3 Intermediate

Players should have achieved a minimum 2.5 rating

Players must sign up for all 4 days. Cost $130 – 16 participants

 This course will cover
• A review of skills you should already have.
• Dinking, further improving consistency accuracy and introducing more aggressive dink play   when appropriate.
• Improving serves and returns – introduction of more aggressive serves.
• Volleying – speeding up the hands.
• Overheads and smashes
• Defensive and offensive lobs.
• Drop shots –  improving accuracy and introducing  third shot drops and re-sets.
• Ground strokes – improving power and accuracy.
• Advanced playing strategy in doubles.
• Much use will be made of various drills working on improving each of the skills
• Each session will end with playing games.
 
 
 Participants should attend all 4 lessons – no refunds after course has started

Level 2 March Beginners Pickleball course – for players who have completed a Level 1 course or, who have 6+ months playing experience

Players must sign up for all 4 days. Cost $120 – 16 participants
 
Venue – Thorncliffe Greenview Community Centre
 
 
Level two courses will cover
 
• A review of skills from level 1.
• Dinking, improving consistency.
• Improving serves and returns.
• Volleying – stop volley and punch volley.
• The ‘ready‘ position – how it changes as you move around the court.
• Drop shots – introduction to third shot drops and re-sets.
• Ground strokes – improving power and accuracy.
• Further playing strategy in doubles.
• Each session should end with playing games.
 
Level 2 will mainly concentrate on improving accuracy and consistency across all shots using a series of drills and exercises.

Consistency in playing the basic strokes is a key component of improving your game. Transform your game with a series of drills that will allow you to speed up your hands, improve co-ordination and footwork, and develop that all-important muscle memory. Sessions will be led by a Level 2 coach.


February 21, 2024

  • Ball machine sessions – intensive work on individual strokes with level 2 coach Bill Lane
  • Open to all  
  • Two sessions 1- 3 pm and 3 – 5 pm
  • 8 spots available for each session

The ball machines provide consistent and repetitive feeding of balls, allowing players to practice specific shots and develop muscle memory. This consistency ensures players can refine their techniques without variation, allowing them to become more consistent on the court. The coach will provide feedback during the drill.

  • 1 – 3 pm Play games with a coach for anyone who has previously taken a level 1 or 2 lesson program

    3 – 5 pm Play games with a coach for anyone who has previously taken intermediate lessons or is at 3.0

Refine your game-play by playing both with and against a Level 2 coach. You will learn court strategy, positioning, and learn to play effectively with your partner.
